THAT’S ME
Hi, I’m André.
Stories have always drawn me in. Maybe because my own started with a plot twist that would make a great indie film.
I was born in Hamburg and spent my childhood in Kabul, where I made my first little films with school friends, using my parents’ Super 8 camera. I returned to Germany when I was twelve. Moving between those worlds taught me something early: no matter how different our lives may be, it’s often the same things that make us laugh, love and connect.
I started out as a copywriter, became a creative director and eventually built my own agency, which I ran for 17 years. Along the way, we collected more than 150 international awards.
During those years, I worked with directors from around the world and watched the same idea become a completely different film in different hands. I always had my own version in my head, too. How it moved. How it felt. How people would perform it. Eventually, watching that film in my head wasn’t enough anymore.
So I directed one.
Coney Island Baby, a short film shot in New York, went on to screen at festivals around the world, including the Hof International Film Festival and SXSW.
For a while, directing and agency life ran side by side. Until one of them won. I left the agency world behind to focus entirely on film.
I’ve directed commercials for Audi and Hyundai, music videos for Berghain resident Marcel Dettmann, and films for HEAD with Novak Djokovic and Jannik Sinner.
For me, every story deserves a world of its own. Even 30 seconds should feel like a scene from a film you wish you could keep watching.
